Guardian of the Alpine Passes

Defined by high Alpine passes, deep valleys, and some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in Europe, the greater Tyrolean region formed a historic bridge between the German and Italian worlds. For centuries, its strategic control of the Brenner and other passes made it vital to trade, empire, and warfare. The legacy of this borderland history survives in fortified towns, Roman roads, and a cultural mix shaped by both the Alps and the routes that cross them.
