The Imperial Elections

How did the Election of Emperors turn Frankfurt into the "Natural Capital of Germany"

Frankfurt was a font of legitimacy for the Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire as only those elected within the walls of the Cathedral had the right to call themselves Emperor. How this curious tradition developed in Frankfurt and the legacy it would have for the city down to the present day is the topic of this historically themed tour. We will talk about the Golden Bulle, or the Imperial Constitution, and what this meant for the city of Frankfurt. We will trace the footsteps of nearly every Holy Roman Empire as they embarked on their ritualized parade from the Cathedral to the Imperial Hall.
